Fairytale-like Prague with its burnt-orange roofs, cobbled-stoned streets and mesmerizing architecture draws in visitors from around the world to immerse themselves in one of Europe’s top cities. Winter is an especially special time to visit Prague when the city lights up with festive displays and dozens of cozy Christmas markets. Needless to say, there’s no shortage of things to see and do in this fantastic Czech capital. Here are the best things to do in Prague.

Watch the astronomical clock in action.

Every hour, on the hour, crowds gather in Prague’s main square (Old Town Square) to watch the fascinating astronomical clock’s 45 second performance as it indicates a new hour has begun. Bonus: First installed in 1410, this astronomical clock is the third oldest in the world.

Climb to the top of the Old Town Hall Tower.

After witnessing the astronomical clock, head to the top of the tower and witness extraordinary views of Prague and the Old Town Hall. You’ll catch glimpses of Prague’s castle, the city’s matching and picturesque roofs, as well as distant hills and greenery. It offers one of the best views of the city.

Indulge in Czech beer.

Czechs are the world’s biggest beer drinkers consuming more per capita than any other nation in the world. It’s the home of the pilsner after all. So, do as the locals and enjoy a pint or two on your trip to Prague. Try the original Budweiser, Pilsner Urquell, and if you like darker beer, Kozel Černý is the one of the best.

From traditional to quirky, Prague is full of some amazing pubs and bars. If you’re looking for traditional, visit a classic beer hall called U Zlatéhp Tygra (The Golden Tiger). Here, the bartender will keep bringing you pints until you’re either on the floor or politely ask him to stop. Fun fact: When Bill Clinton came to the Czech Republic, Václav Havel wanted to show him a real Czech pub, so he brought him to U Zlatéhp Tygra. There’s even a picture of them hanging on the wall among other notable visitors. For a quirky spot, try to get a spot at the AnonymouS Shrink's Office. This isn’t your typical cocktail bar. It’s a bar within a bar and you have to either book in advance or wait for a spot to open by asking the bartender to add you to a list. Once you’re in, you’re handed a “menu” of images. You choose an image that looks like something you’d like to drink as you chat with the “shrink.” He’ll then whip you up a drink based on your results. It’s such a fun, mysterious place and you’ll feel elite just being there.

Eat traditional Czech food.

Czech food is different, tasty, and hearty. A trip to Prague isn’t complete without a bowl of goulash or potato soup served in bread bowl. Try out some of the best traditional restaurants in Prague and take your taste buds on a culinary adventure.

Explore Prague Castle.

Cross over the picturesque Charles Bridge (another must-see) and head up to Prague Castle, which offers a nice view of Prague 1. The castle’s spires, towers, and stunningpalaces stand tall above the citylike a storybook fortress. Take some time to explore this side of town while you’re here and wander quiet streets in search of some of Prague’s best coffee and colorful architecture.

See the swans by the river.

Next to Charles Bridge in the Mala Strana neighborhood, head down by the water and witness flocks of swans and ducks simply hanging out and enjoying the day. It’s an interesting spot for animal lovers and a good area to go for a little wander.
